With the gas tank now primered I think it looks pretty neat, and the hidden mount setup looks real clean!

I'm looking forward to moving onto the rear fender next.

It's taken 6 months of scouring the Earth and the Internet, but we finally found a rear fender that will tightly hug the diameter of our 16" modern lower profile tyre. Plenty of places make fenders to hug the taller vintage style Avon and Firestone 16" tyres which are popular now, but not the lower profile modern profiles.

Thankfully TC Bros came through with the goods.

There's a huge list of modification we're going to make to this fender which will make it almost unrecognisable to what it is now, but I think we've found the perfect base to start from.

Interesting. I end up wedging them. Unaware someone makes one that actually fits! Expensive shipped.

No not really. I ordered a taillight as well and express shipping, and the whole lot to my door was $250. So the fender alone if you're not in a hurry with freight would be less than $200.

Not much else to do during WA's weekend COVID lockdown, so I played cardboard mockups

I really want to do a Crazy Frank inspired rear fender (not a copy), but suited to a rigid with a solo seat, instead of the king/queen swing arm setup we're used to seeing. So out with the cardboard and I think it's starting to work. The taillight pod probably needs some adjusting but it's close?

Also had a mate lend me his oval shaped oil tank to see how it looks. With a 6" rear stretch in this hardtail I think the oval shape helps fill that wide gap better than a round tank would, plus it gives better clearance to the chain. I think we can lock that design in.

Yep looks really cool & the oval tank flows in nicely..I 've dealt with T C Bros myself, they make some good stuff.
I ordered on the 31/3 & received the parcel on 8/4..pretty good considering Easter was in there as well !!

looks good. Nice mock-up using CAD... cardboard application design.

A small chrome coil box / electric box between the oil tank and seat post would help fill in that gap. It could house ignition coils, toggle switches (head/tail lights, signals, kill switch) and ignition switch.

I think Tri Norton has a good idea. I would suggest you level the oil tank rather than having it tilted upwards at the front. Then make an electrics box to fill in the corner. It could be a separate item as shown below or I would build it into the frame as a gusset and mould it in...



Bit like this. Don't have a pic of the other side, but this should give the the idea.


If welded in , gives you a water proof area for fuses and junctions etc. Also good place to mount switches.
