I just took those big ugly tank badges off my 97 Vulcan. Now as they've been there for a while now they took some work to get off there. The problem is, on the right side of the tank a yellow outline was left. I suppose its a fading imbalance between the paint that was covered by the badge for the last 11 years and the paint that's been exposed. The paint on the tin's is an off white color on Grey. Eventually the thing will be painted but I don't want to ride around for the next year or so with a yellow Kawasaki badge outline on my tank! I've tried different solvents and polish to try and remove the yellowing but nothing seems to be working.

I was wondering if any of you fine and knowledgable people may have any ideas?

I was thinking a fine grade wet and dry then polish out the fine scratches. Would this work?

Get a really big sticker, or repaint it!!

What if I used a cut and polish to have a go? Think that would get me anywhere?

brasso is a good strong cut. i'd give that a try first. then if it looks ok polish it up after. if not matt black.

Unfortunately the UV light has faded the paint everywhere but under the sticker.
I would think the 97 vulcan is a basecoat and clear over paint system, so unfortunately cut and polish won't help you if that's the case (just damage the clear, and if you go through it, it will really look bad)
If you can't live with it, I would wet rub it with 800 grit and do as samks said.
You won't hurt it in terms of the repaint.

Thanks for all the tips guys. I think I explained it poorly when I posted this problem. It was actually the adhesive of the badge that had yellowed the paint, not the sun that had yellowed the surrounding paint outside the badge. Sorry about that one!!
Anyway, the old brasso pretty much did the trick. There is the slightest rementants of the yellow but I'm happy enough with that as I'm planning a paint job anyway. So for now I can live with it and it looks heaps better without the badges.
