Importing a bike

I have asked Choppaweeza provide advice based on his business experience in this forum. There are a variety of ways of avoiding Australian regulations... please don't expect him to give advice in those areas.

Importing a bike

Post by markee » Sat Sep 04, 2010 9:54 pm

After any info on importing a bike from USA. Looking at around a 1999-2002 Victory bike. I know normally can't import late model bikes sold in Aus. BUT i don't think they were available here that early on?? Would that make a difference. The bike i get may be modified but still have original frame/motor. I know need to meet ADR's re lights, indicators, etc.

I've seen ads ,places bringing in late model/current Harleys & charging around $3000 to comply. What's the go with this?

Don't know about bikes but it might be the same as cars?
I do know some new rules were introduced in January stating that anything imported has to be factory stock unless you can prove the mods were done pre 89,

Hi I have been speaking to a bloke in Brisbane who can get 2011 Harleys in, takes about 6-8 weeks. Cost is around the $4500-$500 by the time they get delivered to you. This includes the changing of speedo headlight tyres and blinkers to make them Aus compliant. Not sure how long this will last as it is probably not fantastic for Australian seller new or used. But when you see new 2010 2011 Fatboys or Fatbobs for 22,000 landed it is at least worth a quick look at the bank account.

Check the RAWS list . If it's on it then you can get an Import Agent to get one and have it bought in . Contact Geezers in Qld as they specialise in late model bike import & compliancing . Google them . I import bikes but don't do anything made after 1988 .
