Buying a brand new bike

Post by markee » Thu Jun 14, 2012 4:29 am

Toying with the idea of getting a brand new bike which i have never done before. Probably will be a Triumph so in SA Peter Stevens it will be. My query is with cars it is easy to get price down by $000's mainly as different dealers have same brands. What can be achieved with bikes? I saw a posting maybe 2 years ago where a person here in SA went to Vic & price better than Peter Stevens.

Haggle with the dealerships and compare one to the other and see if they will match or lower their price or even see what extras you can get out of them.

What you can get will depend on a number of things:-
1. The popularity of the marque/model that you want to buy.
2. Whether or not they have sold, or will sell without too much problem, their "allocation" of that bike.
3. How their sales for the month/year are going. Getting in before 30 June is a good idea.
4. How quickly you "cave in" to their pitch!

In the current financial climate, with the "toy sector" selling off their toys, sales of new bikes may be down.
Do your homework. Hock your aarse around, make sure that you are consistent in what you want (compare apples with apples), don't be backward in asking for extras &/or discount. No trade-in?? Cash sale? Who pays on-road costs? Stamp duty?
Work it!!

Good luck. It's an exciting time. Enjoy!

With Peter Stevens having the monopoly here in Adelaide your buggered as you cant play one dealer against another.
They are having trouble moving bikes this time of the year and Triumph have just dropped the Speedmaster and America prices, if they wont drop the price get them to throw some extras in.
If you dont ask you wont get.

Yeah, agreed +1

Could always use a new leatherjacket/helmet/gloves/pants/dri-rider/boots/sunnies/beanie/coffee mug/T-shirt/panniers/free oil change........

And its the end of the financial year, so they may bargain on price.
