1985 FXST Softail standard rake

Postby Butcher » Tue Apr 19, 2016 12:14 pm

I've been trawling the net but cannot find what the manufacturer's specification is for the rake of a 1985 softail. Any ideas how I can find out what rake these machines were made with ?

I believe they are 32° - which is also the same for Wide Glide...I think

I'm sure someone can confirm or deny?

Your close tigerbob but it is in fact 34 degrees for both the softail and the wide glide all the way thru the Evolution engine models 1984 - 1999

OK - so now it is time to put some rake on my bike.

Don't want to cut the frame and certainly not going to use raked triple trees. The Prof advises that 3 degree rake steering head races/cups or whatever they are called is the next best option.

I rang EasyR in QLD and they sell for like $240 but have none in stock (Vulcan brand) and they are already on back order in the USA (6 months wait). So trawling the net I find

Then from another supplier these

Note those that suit a 1985 FSXT - the second from the top left and the bottom two. These are between $40 and $50 odd dollars.
I am also told that I should have a "guide tool" which isn't available with these products (from the photos)

So a) I don't know what to buy
and b) I'd rather buy them here in Oz as if I get the wrong set - its a pain to replace.

Rego is up in July so I need to be finished by then

Any advice / help / thoughts ??
