Re: OK let teh fun begin XJ550

Probably wouldn't hurt to get it rego'd and running before cutting it up saves you any potential hassles.

Re: OK let teh fun begin XJ550

I spoke with an engineer who I met at a BBQ about a year go - and just asked him some general questions. His words were: if you mod the frame at all, technically it needs to be engineered. If you do it cleanly, and mount the rear guard in a way that looks solid, I doubt you are going to even get a s...

Re: vin number on pre 1985 bikes

Are you trying to do a lookup on the bike with the government/revs etc to see if it is listed as stolen/written off/money owed etc? If so, vehicles before 1989 are not available according to this website: https://www.service.transport.qld.gov.au/vehicleinformationcheckQt/Welcome.jsp Vcheck offers th...

You mean to separate the tubes from the stanchions? I didn't. Just get the m10 bolt and two or three nuts, locktite them together (or tack weld if you have a welder handy) then put the extension down inside the tube, and go at it with your hex bit/allen wrench. It is good to do your own work and get...

Bike is looking great mate.

What brand/model tyres are those? They look reasonably sporty and not too old which is something I like the look of.

I got the pamco from mikesxs.net Because my bike is an 1981, I had to get a kit that had the Auto Advance weights, rod and bushes plus the pamco kit, but because yours is a '74, if your atu weights are in decent condition, all you need is part# 14-0900 and maybe a new coil Part #14-0652 + spark caps...

Well it has been a lot longer since my last update than I had hoped (busiest couple of months work in my companies history + a promotion to be a team leader), but I have made some progress over the last couple of months. I rebuilt the front forks, completed rebuilding the front brake callipers with ...

I have the standard pamco installed on my bike which seems to run fine. It is the old kit which isn't on mikesxs' site at the moment, but it just uses the $30 coil with the blue bits on it in the photo. Took about 30 minutes to install on my 81, and although I haven't got my bike running on the road...

The guys there are usually pretty good, I have bought a couple of bikes through them in the past. The last time I went past, it looked like they had expanded across two of the shops, but there was a second or third company who was leasing floor space inside and selling their own bikes. If you want t...

I have done the phone in the rice trick a few times, and I have always been lucky and revived the phone.

As for the HDD in the freezer - that has only ever worked for me when they start clicking right before they die - it will keep them going long enough to get the data off.

Do you have any contact details? That sounds like a great deal. I don't need anything super sticky on the bike at this stage - I just want something cheap and reasonable on the road.
